Belie

Definition of Belie:

Fail to give a true notion or impression of something; fail to fulfill or justify



Sample Sentences:

  • The team completely belied their fans.


Usage:


Paragraph:

One of the articles above talks about the belie charges and Iran refuses to cooperate.  The other article talks about the gun control in specifically, Chicago.  Belie means the failure to fulfill or justify something.  It says directly in the first article that the Iran refused to cooperate when Western officials allegedly heard about nuclear weaponization work.  In the gun control article it says Chicago is battling a wave of gun-related violence that belies the claims of gun-control advocates.
